EVALUATION: what kind of media instituiton might distribute your media product and why?

EMAP
Emap are the second largest magazine company in the UK. I chose to look at what brands emap holds and here were the results:
As you can see emap specialise in retail, health, construction and architechture. They host no music magazines which could be beneficial or not. By having no existing music magazines within the company, they may not have enough experience in that field to really promote my magazine, also they wouldnt be much point using their current collection to promote as readers of construction are not likely to be interested in my music magazine in the middle of their engineering reading. On the other hand it allows emap to put full focus into GSOQ, they are the second largest magazine company in the UK and are clearly successful in other areas so why shouldn't they be successful in music magazines. The is an advantage over companies such as IPC media who have NME in their portfolio therefore it would be hard for magazine to stand out against their catalogue. With emap my product would be completely different to what they already have and would open up oppurtunities for them as a company to expand their company, generate more sales and reach new audiences.

However my magazine may look out of place with their products, and their lack of experience within the music field could be costly. As emap wouldnt be able to promote within their company it would be expensive trying to get my magazine really out there plus it would be too much of a risk if they are not used to that area as they clearly specialise in certain genres. The genres of environment and government is completely different to music therefore my product just would not work with emap.
