Technology:
My age range is from 15-38, however its more targeted at the younger end of the spectrum. In 2013 technology is at the centre of everything therefore i thought it was important to feature this in my magazine. The younger generation of today are highly linked with technology with items such as xbox/playstation but mainly due to social networking sites - the two big ones being facebook and twitter.
Facebook launched in 2004 and in october 2012 it reported that it now had over a billion active users, if the company were a country it would be the third largest after china and india. The median age of the Facebook user is 22. In 2006 the median was 19 years old, and 26 in 2008.
Therefore by featuring facebook it fits in well with my age group.
Twitter was created in 2006 and has over 500 million users, there are over 100,000 existing twitter apps and it is thought that per day at least 70 million tweets are generated. Social media sites are such a big part of todays soceity that it would be unthinkable to leave out of my magazine. The use of social media can branch out my magazine to people across the world and generate more interest/sales, it would also keep peopleup to date about upcoming releases etc. The NME twitter account has 468,149 followers currenty (february 2013). By including social media it will appeal to my audience.
I also used technology in a different way by including a QR code. These are becoming more common even featuring on items such as food packaging to offer more information about a product. Recently they are being used more and more in publishing and offer an alternative to books and magazines. A great increase has happened due to new products on the market such as ipads or other tablet devices and kindles for reading. It is a cheaper alternative as it saves on ink and paper whilst being an easier time saving option than having to go out and buy a physical copy. Therefore this time saving and eco friendly idea will appeal greatly to readers and attract them into buying my magazine.
