My target audience for my magazine are males and females (more targeted at males 65:35 ratio) aged between 15-38.
Colours:
Stereotypically pink is associated with girls and blue is associated with boys and then greens, reds and oranges are known as neutral colours. My magazine was targeted at both genders and as i wanted my magazine to be bold and stand out i chose orange to really make a statement and draw the audience in, plus i wanted to make my magazine different to what was out there and red is often used with NME and Q. As well i thought that green would not be a strong enough colour and could get blended in with the design.
Stereotypically again girls are known to be quite fussy over colours e.g. when making presentations in class girls will often spend time making sure the colours are correct whereas boys do not bother. I tried to incorporate this into my magazine by including bright colours (yellow, bright green) which girls wouldnt particularly like as much just to make it slightly more male appealing as my target audience is male dominated. The black and white i have kept consistent gives it a professional feel and makes it seem suitable for an older audience.
My audience demographics have been attracted by keeping the same colour
scheme throughout the magazine so that the same audience will be
attracted to the whole magazine and not for example just the front
cover. In my magazine the bright orange features on all pages.
Fonts:
Throughtout my whole magazine i have only used 3 different fonts - Arial, Times new roman and U.S.101 form dafont.com. These are both simple, nothing fancy, easy on the eye type of fonts. My front cover only features U.S.101, my contents page has again u.s. 101 and times new roman to change it up slightly and arial is only introduced in my double page spread for the interview so that it isnt difficult to read. I took care choosing these aspects to
try and keep my target audience engaged.
Photography:
For my photography i have took an image and cropped it then stretched it the length of the page so that it takes up the majority of the page. I chose my model to have a stern emotionless face and this is what is often used in magazines such as NME. The medium close up of my model is at eye level making it more direct to the reader and he is looking directly down the camera lens so that it is almost intimidating and makes you want to buy the magazine. The size of the image also adds to this intimidating power the celebrity has and that there is no escaping from not buying the magazine. The fact he is looking so powerful will attract the reader into wanting to know what is inside.
