UPDATE: School magazine masthead/target audience change

As said in my previous post i was targeting my school magazine at the younger end of primary school and calling it little BIG.

However the next media lesson, when i came back to start to develop this idea i had completely gone off the idea of little big. It also would have been difficult for me to get images of primary school children without access to a primary school and not knowing any younger children who could feature on my front cover (aslo then have to get parental consent to use child's image). With this in mind i opted to now create a sixth form magazine, with the age range 16-18, this also enabled me to easily obtain images as i am a sxith former i could entise the help of my friends. Aswell as being easier to get photos it would also save me time and therefore could put more time into producing my school magazine and documenting my progress on this blog.

With my new target audience in mind i began creating ideas for my new school magazines name, I also made the decision to use my school - Bishop Walsh as the focus therefore i could keep the uniform and badge consistent.

As i was using my school i looked for words that related to bishop walsh/the badge so the magazine was unique to it.
Above is the bishop walsh sixth form badge (left) and the whole school's badge (right). On both badges it features a small red bird which after further research i found out was a martlet. I thought that as this is unique to Bishop walsh i could include it/use it as my magazine name. On the whole school badge it features 3 red martlets however on the sixth form magazine it only includes a single martlet. As my target audience are bishop walsh sixth form students i decided to call my magazine 'Red Martlet'. The red martlet is also central focus on the sixth form badge so i thought that the name worked really well.

Now that i have my name decided i can begin creating a design for it...
