Planning and Production - Deciding a music magazine name and genre

L.O: To begin to think of the genre and name of your music magazine:
For this lesson i made a table on word to put down my ideas of names and genres and my reasons behind them, i tried to think of as many genres as possible and here are the best 10:

After looking over these names i chose to go with 'GSOQ' a music magazine celebrating the best of british. I thought out of my ideas the name was clever how the letters stood for 'God Save Our Queen' which is the british national anthem and that in  real life this magazine would have more appeal as Britain has/has had some of the best musicians in the world. I also thought a british magazine would tie in well with 2012 after the patriotism of the Diamond Jubilee and especially the olympic where at the opening and closing ceremony many british musicians performed.
Taking inspiration from the opening and closing ceremonies i gathered the list of artist who featured as i could also include them in my music magazine. Here is who performed:
  • Arctic Monkeys
  • Paul McCartney
  • The Who
  • The Spice Girls
  • Take That
  • Tinie Tempah
  • Madness
  • One Direction
  • Liam Gallagher
  • Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor
  • Jessie J
  • Ed Sheeran
  • George Michael
and thats only some, music was also played from musicians who could not perform or who have died including a special John Lennon feature. These ceremonies really highlighted the greatness of british music therefore i think a magazine focused on these type of artists would work well as it would appeal to a big age range.

My magazine would feature both old and new musicians so it could appeal to the young and old, it could also help educate people with music e.g. older audience learn more about modern day music aswell as the younger readers find out about people who their dad may listen to which they may never have thought of listening to before.
